How to Make a Quick & Easy Joint Healing Juice

celeryjuice
Anyone who has been affected by gout knows how awful it can be. Gout is a painful disorder that causes joint inflammation, leading to acute arthritis. When gout starts to flare up, it can really affect your mobility and overall comfort. The affected joints will usually feel really hot, tender and swollen, which really isn’t fun for anyone.

What causes gout?
Gout is caused by the over production of uric acid in the blood. Formerly known as a “rich man’s disease”, gout is becoming more and more common in recent decades. and that is due at least in part to the way we eat. Now about 2% of the Western world has had gout at some point, and the numbers are only getting higher. So what does that say about our lifestyles?

Diet plays a roleOne of the reasons why gout is on the rise is – the Western diet. We are simply consuming too much meat, alcohol and fructose, all of which can drastically up our uric acid production. Too much uric acid in our bodies can cause there to be a buildup of urate in joints and tendons, leading to the painful inflammation associated with gout.

So what is uric acid exactly?
Uric acid is produced mostly by the breakdown of purines, which are found in protein. A bit of uric acid is also created from the breakdown of cells, but proteins are the big culprits. The uric acid is excreted by the kidneys, but if there’s too much being produced, there could be a buildup.
It’s not the uric acid itself that builds up in the joints. Uric acid is prone to forming different types of salts in the body, which are called urates. Monosodium urate (MSU) is a particularly bad urate that can accumulate in the joints, which is what causes gout.

Medicine isn’t the only Answer, Give Juicing a Try
The good news is that there are foods that can actually really help with gout flare-ups. Low purine veggies such as beets, cucumbers, celery, lettuce and potatoes can help lower blood levels of uric acid.A quick, easy and delicious way to make sure you get a lot of veggies is to drink them. A refreshing cucumber juice may be just what you need if you’re looking to stay healthy and prevent joint inflammation. Try this awesome recipe to start feeling better in no time.

Joint Healing Juice

Prep time:
  • 10 mins
Ingredients:
  • 1 medium-sized cucumber
  • 2 ribs of celery
  • A slice of lemon
  • 1-inch young ginger root
 Instructions:
Make sure to carefully clean all the vegetables first. Have a good look at the celery ribs to make sure there’s no dirt on them. Cut the cucumber and the celery into smaller pieces so that they’re easier to blend. Cut the lemon in half, you can save the other half for your next juice! Carve out the ginger root and throw everything into your juicer, it’s that easy.
Drink one of these once or twice a day until your symptoms start to go away, or even better, keep drinking them to make sure you don’t flare up in the future!
